The story behind the McWalter-Volunteer
Insurance Agency, Inc. is the history of a family who,
for three generations during the past 100 years, has
been serving the people of Concord, its surrounding
towns and all of New England. The agency takes
great pride in the fact that many of their current
clients are the great-grandchildren of Mr. Maurice
McWalter’s first customers.
Constant growth, combined with personalized
attention, has been the key to the success of the
agency.
In 1907, a Concord attorney, the late Maurice
McWalter, founded the agency in conjunction with
his legal practice. He was joined by his oldest son,
John, in 1930. John’s oldest son, Jack, joined the
agency in 1952, followed by son Dick in 1958, and
son David in 1965.
In 1998 David merged the agency with the
Volunteer Insurance Agency, Inc., with its offices in
Concord and Maynard. Joining David in the merger
were Charlie Gibbs and John O’Donoghue. In 2008,
Cato Anderson joined the agency.
Together the four longtime insurance
professionals, David McWalter, Charlie Gibbs, John
O’Donoghue and Cato Anderson, added additional
insurance markets, grew to new heights and poised
the company to launch into the second millennium
of existence.
