I began in the cheese business as a teenager in
1976, in a fellow franchise store. My first visit to
The Cheese Shop in Concord felt like a return to my
roots. My whole life has been in the industry, doing
everything from milking the cows to importing and as
a local distributor, but my first love remained retail.
The holidays from 1998-2000 found me taking
a few days off from my day job to return to the
retail cheese counter for Bill and Louise Barber.
On Christmas Eve, 2000, the Barbers told me the
store was for sale. I rushed home to my wife and
infant daughter and we decided to buy the store and
preserve its wonderful culture.
My life has been an apprenticeship to owning
The Cheese Shop. I love the town, the sense of
community, and the products we sell. I love buying
and selling cheeses, wines, oils and charcuterie,
and I love eating!! I enjoy chatting with customers,
many of whom have become friends in the process.
The Cheese Shop has been in Concord for 40
years, providing expert advice, fantastic products,
and superb service. These are the triad of quality we
pride ourselves in.
