When it comes to revolutions in American
life, no ground has proved richer than Concord,
Massachusetts—from the shot heard 'round the
world to the writings of the Transcendentalists,
from the anti-slavery movement to innovations in
education and agriculture.
Founded in 1886, the Concord Museum stands at
the center of this remarkable legacy. The Museum's
renowned collection of over 50,000 objects includes
the famous Revere lantern, Emerson's Study, the
desk on which Thoreau wrote Walden, and one of
the nation's oldest and most respected collections of
Americana, including furniture, Revolutionary War-
era artifacts, silver, ceramics, and needlework.
The Concord Museum is an irreplaceable
cornerstone of the Concord experience for visitors
from around the world, as well as a vital educational
and cultural resource for residents of Greater
Boston. The Concord Museum's ability to connect
people with history is evident in outstanding public
programs for children, families, and adult lifelong
learners; model education programs; innovative
exhibitions; award-winning publications; and a
distinctive museum shop.
The Concord Museum is accredited by the
American Association of Museums, the highest
professional recognition and a distinction awarded
to less than 5% of museums nationwide.
