info@concordorchestra.com www.concordorchestra.comThe Concord Orchestra is composed of 70
musicians living in Concord, Massachusetts and the
Greater Boston metropolitan area. Richard Pittman
has been the music director and conductor of the
Concord Orchestra since 1969. The orchestra was
founded in 1953.
Our season consists of three formal concerts
performed in the fall, winter, and spring, a family
concert in December, and Pops concerts in May.
Concerts are held at The 51 Walden Performing Arts
Center in Concord.
To encourage young musicians, a young artist
competition is held annually and the winner
performs a concerto with the orchestra, while the
two runners up give pre-concert recitals. Over the
years these soloists have demonstrated remarkable
artistry and introduced important young talent to
the community.
David Griesinger, in a review for the Boston
Musical Intelligencer, wrote "The Concord Orchestra
mainly consists of serious musicians whose life
path diverged from music as a career, but whose
enthusiasm and delight in playing is undiminished.
Under Pittman's leadership, their performances are
consistently delightful. Pittman programs beautiful
and sometimes neglected works as well as a few old
favorites and brings to them thoughtful and exciting
performances."
